Happy Three Month Birthday Nathan!

Here is all about Nathan this month....

Forget the 0-3 month clothes, this guys is fully in 3-6 month clothes. Most of his sleepers are still not quite long enough.

Things Nathan Loves
1. Floor time. Nathan loves to lay on the floor and kick and talk. He really likes to entertain and talk to him self. In fact, he sometimes gets alittle overstimulated when we have people over and he prefers to just lay by himself.
2. Grabbing things. Nathan is working out his hand/eye coordination. He can now grab the toys that dangle from his baby gym and he tries to pull them onto himself. He even grabbed the handle of his diaper bag and pulled it onto himself today. He also LOVES grabbing my hair, whenever I hold him on my shoulder its the first thing that he goes for.
3. Talking. Nathan mainly talks when he is laying down. It is the cutest and funniest thing to here him babble on and on. When he's awake in the car he also likes to talk away. I am not sure if this is me or not, but I think that he sings. I sing the same songs before bed time and as I am singing he now vocalizes along. From the perspective of a proud mama, he's singing.
4. Sitting up. He has pretty much mastered his head control, but Nathan still doesn't have the balance to sit up on his own. He likes when we hold his hands while he sits to help him stay up.
5. Baths. These are still a big hit. Nathan now gets excited when I bring him into the bathroom and he hears the water running. This is what I see during bath time, because the shampoo bottles are way more interesting than looking at me.

Things Nathan does not like
1. Bedtime. Nathan is pretty good about naps, very little crying it out during the day. But bedtime is still a challenge, he takes a long time (about an hour) to calm down and go to sleep. It means many, many trips up and down the stairs for Daniel and I to calm him down and check on him.
2. Nathan is still hot or miss about getting buckled into his car seat. If we talk and entertain him during the buckling process he is usually fine.

Things I can't live without.
There are several things that have surprised me that we use so much.
1. The snot sucker and saline spray. Nathan and I both got stuffy noses this month. Luckily, Nathan just hangs out and smiles through the whole squirt saline up the nose and suck it out process. But these two items have been added to my must have list for this month.
2. Tons of Blankets. I go through multiple blankets a day. And we learned that Nathan is sensitive to light while he is sleeping, so when he sleeps in his car seat we not put a blanket over it so he stays asleep.
3. The space heater. I really use this for the fan. Our bedroom is basically a wind tunnel from the air filter, space heater, and humidifier so when Nathan moved out of our room he was already used to the noise. Also, Nathan sleeps better in a warm room.
4. Bibs. I have just started to have to use bibs. Nathan has been having some slight drooling issues when he is sitting up.

Sleep
Nathan slept in until 10am yesterday! I normally wake him up, but I was so tired that I just let him sleep. And sleep he did, this was a nice treat for me. I switched up his nighttime routine alittle, he goes to sleep around 8. Then I wake him up for a "dream feed" at 12 when I go to bed, he doesn't really wake up he just eats in a dazed state. He then sleeps until 6am and I get 6 hours of uninterrupted sleep. He goes right back to sleep and gets up for the day between 8 and 9.

Other tid bits.
I went back to doing my internship this month, which has led to some interesting work situations. Nathan is good for the most part, he still sleeps anywhere and doesn't seem to mind going places most of the time. But I still feel an element of unpredictability bringing him places, never knowing if he will stay asleep when he is supposed to or not.
I am so grateful that the church lets me bring him to work with me and we don't need daycare. This would really defeat the purpose of me not working.

Nathans newborn hair is falling out, and is being replaced with lighter brown hair. I am thankful that he has hair to cover his misshaped head. Turns out not being able to sit up much and laying down alot flattens your head out.

I would say that I have had some of the most joyful moments this past month. Nathan is becoming more and more interactive while still having a really pleasant personality. There have been several times where we just laugh and play as a family and it is as if nothing else matters.

Growing like a bean

Another brilliant baby idea! :) I thought this would come in handy to measure our little bean. He seems to grow so quickly, this can keep us up to date. It's a baby measuring sheet, just lay babies head in the center and it tells you how long they are. Parents can measure baby from any direction, find more photos and info here.

Childbirth, Childbirth everywhere

We attended our first childbirth class last night, an event that neither Daniel or I was looking that forward to. I was hesitant for a few reasons, one being that the minute I put this on the calender THREE MONTHS AGO, other events happening on these specific Mondays have been coming up. Secondly, is that my husband has a condition that happens during every parenting type of class that we go to, lets call it "giggle-at-inappropriate-times disease." It's not that he is not interested in the topics, but for some reason the other parents in the classes that we go to are usually really reserved and quite. So we will sit in silence waiting for the class to begin, sit silently through the class and then leave. Daniel's response to this is to make jokes and laugh throughout the class. Childbirth class has been no exception to this trend, and I joined him in the giggling this time. Although it hurt so bad to try to hold in my laughter, I began to have tears. All of th...

Alternative Diaper Bag

We have been having a struggle finding the ultimate diaper bag. I have purchased two so far and looked a hundred more. We are looking for one that can hold all of our stuff, fit into the basket of our stroller, and looks trendy so Daniel can carry it and not be totally awkward. We recently switched to an old backpack that I had. It seems to be working, but my search continues. Today I found this.... it's a jacket for dads that functions as a diaper bag. All the storage, coolness and functionality we are looking for and its hands free! And as a bonus, it basically ensures that Daniel would be the one changing diapers. It has a changing pad in the back pocket and an easy access wipes pocket. It also has a side pocket for bottle. GENIUS!!! www.dadgear.com
