Mini-vacation Day 1

We had a guest speaker at our church this weekend. He needed a ride back to Chicago on Sunday, and Daniel has 2 weeks of vacation to use. So I thought we should take this opportunity to take a mini-vacation. So I thought we could stay in Chicago for a few days and hang out.
And let me tell you, this was not a good idea.
- First, Nathan decided to start getting his second tooth the morning we were leaving. So he screamed alot of the 3 hour drive to Chicago. At one point we had to just stop becuase he was inconsolable. Let me tell you the guest in our car loves us :).
- Next, we had a brain fart when we booked the hotel. Daniel booked a great hotel downtown Chicago. We forgot when we did this, that we had a baby. We arrived at the hotel that had no parking, unloaded our ridiculous amount of luggage onto the sidewalk (see the sentence above about us having a baby = lots and lots of stuff.)
- Then there was no one to help us with our luggage, and we couldn't keep the car on the street, we just looked at each other as our blood pressure rose.
- Where should we go to dinner? Oh, let's go to Navy Pier, it's not a far walk. Again, I forgot we had a baby. The map only said it was a mile. I didn't factor in the high winds off of the lake and that it was now 45 degrees out. Half-way there Daniels flip-flop wearing feet went numb and ears started burning. At this point he suggested to me that we just go home.
- We got to Navy Pier, only a 45 minute wait at the restaurant. Nathan was a champ though, he was out of his cranky mood by now and he is a great waiter. He really likes people watching.
Here he is playing with daddy.

-Some strangers thought he was so cute, they took his picture.
- At dinner Nathan found drink coasters and a straw that kept him busy most of the time.

- Then I realized that I didn't have my nursing cover with me, so I had to use my zebra print coat to cover up while nursing in the restaurant. The Grandmother at the table across from us was not amused. But Nathan was quite, and we were full so we just sat and talked.

Day 1- the end.

Labor Induction Technique that does work....

Almost from the day that I found out that I was pregnant, I thought that Jesus told me (weird, I know) that baby Goulet was going to come on October 21st. October 21st is also the anniversary of Daniel and I getting engaged. The year that we got engaged October 21st was sweetest day, so Daniel thought that it was a perfect day to get engaged. Even though I have thought that whole time that I would have a baby on the 21st, I am not a patient woman. And I especially do not like surprises, so the suspense of going in the labor was killing me (see previous posts). On the 20 th , in my quest to go into labor I drank Castor oil. Gross I know, but I mixed it with juice and it wasn't bad. I went for me daily walk, and felt nothing. Within a couple of hours, the Castor oil had kicked in. Castor oil in found at drug stores, and is typically used as a laxative. I can now say from personal experience, that it is a good laxative if you would like to completely clean your bowels out...

Growing like a bean

Another brilliant baby idea! :) I thought this would come in handy to measure our little bean. He seems to grow so quickly, this can keep us up to date. It's a baby measuring sheet, just lay babies head in the center and it tells you how long they are. Parents can measure baby from any direction, find more photos and info here.

Childbirth, Childbirth everywhere

We attended our first childbirth class last night, an event that neither Daniel or I was looking that forward to. I was hesitant for a few reasons, one being that the minute I put this on the calender THREE MONTHS AGO, other events happening on these specific Mondays have been coming up. Secondly, is that my husband has a condition that happens during every parenting type of class that we go to, lets call it "giggle-at-inappropriate-times disease." It's not that he is not interested in the topics, but for some reason the other parents in the classes that we go to are usually really reserved and quite. So we will sit in silence waiting for the class to begin, sit silently through the class and then leave. Daniel's response to this is to make jokes and laugh throughout the class. Childbirth class has been no exception to this trend, and I joined him in the giggling this time. Although it hurt so bad to try to hold in my laughter, I began to have tears. All of th...
