Here is the Christmas dilema when both parents in a family are pastors and need to be at church most of the Christmas weekend...when does our family do presents??? Answer - whenever we want :) Daniel and I decided that we love traditions and we are enjoying creating new ones for our family. One of the traditions that we are going to do with our family is to surprise our kids with the present part of Christmas. We really want Christmas day to be about Jesus being born. So we thought it would be fun as they get older to pick a day for us to open presents, then surprise the kids as to when it is.
This year, we decided to have our family Christmas on Friday because its our usual family day anyway. I also decided that it would work better for our schedule to set up and wrap some last minute presents during nap time. So when the boys woke up from their naps we had a present party.
Nathan's big gift was a kitchen with play food. Nathan is really interested in cooking and loves to help me in the kitchen so I thought it would be a hit. So far....not so much. I should have saved the money and gotten him a bunch of buckets to use as drums and a pack of pencils to use as drum sticks. The child still has a strong addiction to drums :) We decided to wait until he is 3 to get him a heavy duty kids drumset. Most of the ones I've seen Nathan would break in about 5 minutes.
Nathan's favorite gift was actually a gift for Daniel. I found a great travel coffee mug at the dollar store (what?) a month or two ago and Daniel and I have been stealing it back and forth ever since. One day Daniel said to me "If you ever find these mugs again you should buy like 10 of them." I found the mugs again, and I bought 10 of them for Christmas. Nathan loved these mugs, he stacked them and pretended to drink from them. Who knew Christmas could be so simple?

alright, share the secret...what's so great about those mugs?
ReplyDeleteThey are only a dollar :) and dishwasher safe. All of our other mugs get water trapped in them from the dishwasher. They are also short enough to fit under our k cup maker. :)
