4 months old!!!

Here is all about Nathan this month....

Nathan had another growth spurt this month. I knew he was getting long, but we went to the doctor today and found out that he is 26.5 inches long. In four month old terms, he is in the 90th percentile for height. Forget the 3-6 month clothes, this guys is fully in 6-9 month clothes.

Things Nathan Loves
1. Jumperoo. The jumperoo is a miracle contraption. It might look bad in my living room and take up a pretty big area, but this thing is worth every bit of floor space that it takes up. Nathan loves the jumperoo. It occupies him for hours, it's a four month olds equivalent to a new episode of Lost. It always leaves you wanting more, only the jumperoo is not confusing and actually keeps the same cast of characters.

2. Floor time. Floor time is no longer just floor time, it's now "time to kick" time. Nathan loves to pick his legs up and drop them to the floor. Repeat this action about a hundred times and you have fifteen minutes of awesome in Nathans life. When he is upstairs kicking you can hear him downstairs. I wonder if he's hurting his feet, but I figure he would let us know if it hurts. The kicks have recently led to spinning in a circle. Nathan's head stays in the same place, but his body moves around. That's how he ended up like this under his play gym:

3. Talking, I mean screaming. Nathan has discovered the fine art of screeching. I think he kind of sounds like a duck:

4. Baths, these are now punctuated by Nathan playing with his washcloth. It's only a matter of time until he's washing himself.

Things Nathan does not like
1. Getting buckled in his carseat.
2. His highchair/booster thing. I think its too upright, he is not having it.

3. When his parents obsessively blab about him on the internet, oh wait....

Things I can't live without
There are several things that have surprised me that we use so much.
1. Tons of washcloths. I bought about 40 washcloths from Target before Nathan was born. We use them for everything.
2. Baby Bjorn. I love our front carrier. Nathan loves to face out and it helps me be able to get things done. Sometimes it reminds me of being pregnant again, especially when he gets excited and kicks like crazy.

Looks
I ask myself every morning where this kid came from. He's sporting blonde hair and blue eyes.

Labor Induction Technique that does work....

Almost from the day that I found out that I was pregnant, I thought that Jesus told me (weird, I know) that baby Goulet was going to come on October 21st. October 21st is also the anniversary of Daniel and I getting engaged. The year that we got engaged October 21st was sweetest day, so Daniel thought that it was a perfect day to get engaged. Even though I have thought that whole time that I would have a baby on the 21st, I am not a patient woman. And I especially do not like surprises, so the suspense of going in the labor was killing me (see previous posts). On the 20 th , in my quest to go into labor I drank Castor oil. Gross I know, but I mixed it with juice and it wasn't bad. I went for me daily walk, and felt nothing. Within a couple of hours, the Castor oil had kicked in. Castor oil in found at drug stores, and is typically used as a laxative. I can now say from personal experience, that it is a good laxative if you would like to completely clean your bowels out...

Warning: Cute overload ahead.

Ode to our awesome friend, Jenna. Jenna is our incredibly funny, caring and all around wonderful neighbor. Not only can she sing, play guitar, have great hair and tie a scarf in 25 different ways, she also can take awesome pictures. Like the pictures that she took of me while I was 9 months pregnant, anyone that can make a hugely pregnant woman look comfortable deserves a medal. She took this belly picture of me: Jenna is also chronically Nathan's growth. She came over the other night to take some Christmas card/one month old pictures. Let's just say that Nathan is not the easiest subject to work with. You have to work around the fact that he doesn't focus, has little head control, and favors looking to the right. Despite these challenges Jenna just sent us these pictures. I can barely handle the cuteness, it makes me temporarily forget the 51 pound weight gain, weeks of puking, and hours of labor. This face makes me become delusional enough to think of how many...

Elastic waist pants

One update that I forgot was that I made the transition to Maternity pants. I've been wearing my regular pants and using Bella Bands. Which are an awesome invention that my friend lent to me. Its basically a tube top for your waist that covers up the fact the your jeans are unzipped and help together with a rubber band. This worked for awhile. But then, I tried maternity jeans. Here's the story of me buying maternity clothes: I had a left over gift certificate from our wedding to use and I didn't know what to buy with it. It was kind of weird to me to use it for this purpose, but it is what we need right now. Nothing like keeping the major life events on a close timeline. When I tried them on, I learned that they are not just an elastic waist. Maternity jeans are made of 100 percent stretch fabric. They are the comfy sweat pant of the jean world. Sure they might have a fake zipper, but I can wear them all day and not race home and undo the multiple rubber bands extendin...
