6 Months Old

Here is all about Nathan this month....

Things Nathan Loves

1. FOOD! Nathan loves eating. This kid LOVES bananas. And he is a big eater. He would eat a whole banana if I let him. And I did...once.

2. Anything that he can hit. I am currently searching for a set of baby bongos.

3. Sitting Up. Nathan no longer likes to lounge on the ground, he wants to sit up and see the world. I love seeing him sitting up surrounded by toys and playing. He still looks like he's working. He picks up a toy, inspects every inch of it to see if it changed from the last time he played with it then moves on to the next. He will sit and play for a long time. He still needs to have a pillow behind him due to the occasional spill.

4. Singing. This is my new distraction whenever he is fussy I sing everything I can think of to him and he stops. We also have a cereal song that we sing during breakfast, this makes Nathan smile and open his mouth for food.

5. Getting tickled before bed. Every night as I am changing him for bed (and Daniel is usually cleaning up dinner) I tickle Nathan. Now as soon as I start to change him for bed he laughs wildly. Well, as wildly as Nathan laughs which is still kind of reserved. (He has a silent laugh like his mom.)

6. Books. A Mother's dream come true. He loves books. He likes the touch and feel kind, but any book will do. I even keep one in the diaper bag cause it will occupy him for a long time.

Things Nathan does not like

1. Getting buckled in his carseat.

2. Getting dressed, this is a new dislike.

Things I can't live without.

1. The Futon. Nathan's room used to be our office. We were dilusional before Nathan was born and thought that the room could be a mixed space. We were wrong, it is Nathans room. Because of our crazy mixed space concept, and our laziness we left the desk and he futon in the room. Mainly, there is no other place in our house to put these and because getting furniture down our staircase is one of our least favorite things in the world. So Nathan's room looks like a cross between a nursery and a college dorm room. All we need is a lava lamp, stale pizza, and the smell of boy and its an 18 year olds dream.

But I have to say, I don't think I will every want a nursery without a twin bed or a futon in it. We use the futon all the time. I learned early the trick of if I lay down with Nathan he will sleep. Even if he is not sleepy, he will sleep. I also learned that on the mornings that I know I am going to fall asleep sitting up, I can lay down and nurse.

I am also thankful for the cover on the futon, cause that thing has had every bodily function Nathan has on it.

Warning: Cute overload ahead.

Ode to our awesome friend, Jenna. Jenna is our incredibly funny, caring and all around wonderful neighbor. Not only can she sing, play guitar, have great hair and tie a scarf in 25 different ways, she also can take awesome pictures. Like the pictures that she took of me while I was 9 months pregnant, anyone that can make a hugely pregnant woman look comfortable deserves a medal. She took this belly picture of me: Jenna is also chronically Nathan's growth. She came over the other night to take some Christmas card/one month old pictures. Let's just say that Nathan is not the easiest subject to work with. You have to work around the fact that he doesn't focus, has little head control, and favors looking to the right. Despite these challenges Jenna just sent us these pictures. I can barely handle the cuteness, it makes me temporarily forget the 51 pound weight gain, weeks of puking, and hours of labor. This face makes me become delusional enough to think of how many...

Labor Induction Technique that does work....

Almost from the day that I found out that I was pregnant, I thought that Jesus told me (weird, I know) that baby Goulet was going to come on October 21st. October 21st is also the anniversary of Daniel and I getting engaged. The year that we got engaged October 21st was sweetest day, so Daniel thought that it was a perfect day to get engaged. Even though I have thought that whole time that I would have a baby on the 21st, I am not a patient woman. And I especially do not like surprises, so the suspense of going in the labor was killing me (see previous posts). On the 20 th , in my quest to go into labor I drank Castor oil. Gross I know, but I mixed it with juice and it wasn't bad. I went for me daily walk, and felt nothing. Within a couple of hours, the Castor oil had kicked in. Castor oil in found at drug stores, and is typically used as a laxative. I can now say from personal experience, that it is a good laxative if you would like to completely clean your bowels out...

Welcome Elijah!

Elijah Spence Goulet is here. The birth was very very different than the first time. But I will say it still hurt like crazy. :) I felt kind of nauseous and bad all day yesterday. I thought something was up. I went for a walk in the afternoon to try to encourage labor and started having Braxton hicks contractions. They didn't hurt at all so I knew they weren't the real thing. My mom made us dinner and I had her put Nathan to bed because I was just too tired to do anything. Around 9:00 I started having contractions exactly 5 minutes apart. They were uncomfortable and not painful so I just used my labor iPhone app and tracks them but didn't say anything to Daniel or my mom. I wasn't sure I was in labor and I didn't want to get us all ready for nothing. This is the part were I add in that I had many many sleepless nights with Nathan in false labor. So I wasn't wanting to go to the hospital until I was sure this was real. I grabbed Daniel at 10:00 and has him go on...
