Independent play

We are continuing to loosely follow the babywise books on child raising. One of the recommendations is something called "independent play." Which means you put toys in a playpen near you, and you let our child play by themself for 20-30 minutes.
Nathan used to take the opportunity while I got ready in the morning to destroy the bathroom. I think he knew I was occupied. So I thought this would be the perfect time of the day to do independent play. I set up his pack and play outside the bathroom, put in some favorite toys and say "have fun buddy."

It took alittle while for him to understand that his is not punishment and actually focusing on your toys can be fun. I love independent play time, and Nathan really does focus more on his toys instead of going from thing to thing. I am going to remember this for "the new guy" and hopefully start sooner than I did with Nathan.
But today, Nathan wins in our constant game of "who can out smart who." I peeked out at him doing independent play and found him standing in his toy basket in the play pen. So much for me trying to contain his toys.

Yes, the basket is no longer in the playpen.

Growing like a bean

Another brilliant baby idea! :) I thought this would come in handy to measure our little bean. He seems to grow so quickly, this can keep us up to date. It's a baby measuring sheet, just lay babies head in the center and it tells you how long they are. Parents can measure baby from any direction, find more photos and info here.

Childbirth, Childbirth everywhere

We attended our first childbirth class last night, an event that neither Daniel or I was looking that forward to. I was hesitant for a few reasons, one being that the minute I put this on the calender THREE MONTHS AGO, other events happening on these specific Mondays have been coming up. Secondly, is that my husband has a condition that happens during every parenting type of class that we go to, lets call it "giggle-at-inappropriate-times disease." It's not that he is not interested in the topics, but for some reason the other parents in the classes that we go to are usually really reserved and quite. So we will sit in silence waiting for the class to begin, sit silently through the class and then leave. Daniel's response to this is to make jokes and laugh throughout the class. Childbirth class has been no exception to this trend, and I joined him in the giggling this time. Although it hurt so bad to try to hold in my laughter, I began to have tears. All of th...

Labor Induction Technique that does work....

Almost from the day that I found out that I was pregnant, I thought that Jesus told me (weird, I know) that baby Goulet was going to come on October 21st. October 21st is also the anniversary of Daniel and I getting engaged. The year that we got engaged October 21st was sweetest day, so Daniel thought that it was a perfect day to get engaged. Even though I have thought that whole time that I would have a baby on the 21st, I am not a patient woman. And I especially do not like surprises, so the suspense of going in the labor was killing me (see previous posts). On the 20 th , in my quest to go into labor I drank Castor oil. Gross I know, but I mixed it with juice and it wasn't bad. I went for me daily walk, and felt nothing. Within a couple of hours, the Castor oil had kicked in. Castor oil in found at drug stores, and is typically used as a laxative. I can now say from personal experience, that it is a good laxative if you would like to completely clean your bowels out...
